We feel it is essesntial to begin organization of a large network of food growing projects in different locations around the U.S. We witnessed first hand the food supply disruptions which occurred in spring 2020 from the first wave of Coronavirus infections. Medical evidence suggests this problem will become far worse in the future. The NIH conducted a 40 year longitudinal study which found the U.S. population is experiencing a steady annual decline in immune system white blood cell count of approx 50 cells per year. The percentage of the U.S. population with dangerously low counts below 3,500 is doubling every 10 years. This trend will clearly result in increased viral susceptibility among greater numbers of the population. To avoid hardships in food supply, it is imperative to link together food growing communities at different latitutes to take advantage of the different growing seasons throughout the country. For example, areas of Texas or Florida allow for growing food during the winter months. For example, established and verified northern agricultural communities belonging to the AFC network would receive food deliveries at little or no cost as long as they can grow food during the summer months and supply food to communities that cannot grow during the summer. Members from different AFC farming projects may offer to travel between communities to assist with organic food production as well. By linking together dozens of communities in food production at different latitudes, we can insure a steady food supply for community members. A common vehicle can be used to transport food at very little cost as the expense would be shared by all communities receiving food products. Our message board will begin discussion on any progress and ideas on how to make this successful. View Message Board
